Was able to get some thoughts together this weekend on the grant application and I have a much better take on what I’m going to present eventually. I still have a lot of work to do, but at least it’s a start. I also got started on securing the new website and creating Facebook and Twitter accounts for the film, though I’m still unsure if this will be the final web presentation or if something more elaborate might come out of my grant proposal. It’s a lot to consider yet but am excited about the process. Heard over the weekend, we might be getting a new producer for one of the films I am working on, though I probably shouldn’t say more, but it’s got me excited. We were mentioned in an article, albeit indirectly the other day, as interested parties looking to film in the Iron Range. Now with Griffin productions showing some interest, I’m hoping it’s the start of a turnaround for Minnesota’s film industry. Would be nice after a long hiatus. Since Arnie Carlson left the governors office, the Minnesota Snowbate has been steadily dropping for about ten years. Apparently Minnesota had one of the first film rebate programs in the country, but other states have slowly made ours look pretty pathetic and its going to take quite a bit of work to get the state legislature interested in film again. We really need to raise a racket and prove that we need a say, so write your legislators. For most of my career I’ve been doing this part time, and it’s only been in the last few years that going pro was even an available option. It’s nice to be able to get out of the cubicle. I’ll be damned if I’m going back.
